Unity's Controversial Pricing Implementation leads to Backlash from Developers
It was announced last night, that software company Unity will introduce a new "Runtime Fee". What else is new in gaming these days? Constant generic gameplay? Boring and broken promises from Triple A companies? Another game pass or in-game seasonal pass? No. What is new though, is Unity's declaration of a new policy which takes in effect on January 1 of the new year. Unity calls it a "Runtime Fee", which is directed to some developers who would now need to pay a small fee every time someone downloads the game which was built using Unity's software. Unity insisted that only a small percent of developers would be affected by this new policy. That the small fee would only need to be applied during the initial installation of a game unlike subscription services like console game passes.
