Unity's Controversial Pricing Implementation leads to Backlash from Developers

It was announced last night, that software company Unity will introduce a new "Runtime Fee".

What else is new in gaming these days? Constant generic gameplay? Boring and broken promises from Triple A companies? Another game pass or in-game seasonal pass? No. What is new though, is Unity's declaration of a new policy which takes in effect on January 1 of the new year. Unity calls it a "Runtime Fee", which is directed to some developers who would now need to pay a small fee every time someone downloads the game which was built using Unity's software.

Unity insisted that only a small percent of developers would be affected by this new policy. That the small fee would only need to be applied during the initial installation of a game unlike subscription services like console game passes.

This was seen as heinous by many developers including BAFTA's Best Game Award Winner, Massive Monster who created Cult of the Lambs. Speaking of whom, are threatening to delete the overall game upon Unity's new policy release date. AGGRO Crab who has been developing a souls-like Crab adventure game called Another Crabs Adventure, has also spoken against Unity's decision.

If enacted, this could send multiple delays to pipelines and current productions of many studios who majorly are Indie creators and aspiring game developers.
