Should Xbox Be Worried About Playstation's Heated Showcase?

PlayStation fans rejoice as new showcase reveal industry favorites, Xbox players react.

After the PlayStation Showcase debuted yesterday, there were many titles that took the stage during its hour and half rundown time. Games like Bungie's Marathon, a newly-announced heist game Fairgame$, a Splatoon-inspired Foamstars game, Helldivers 2, Ghostrunner 2, and Phantom Blade 0. In addition to those new titles, previously announced games such as Alan Wake 2, received a well-earned trailer and release date (October 17). As well as, Assassin's Creed Mirage, Dragon's Dogma 2, and this years heavy hitter's a new Metal Gear Solid remake (Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater) and Spiderman 2 which stole the show.

Many players were excited to finally see their star-studded superhero Spiderman in a new web-slinging adventure for PS5. After Insomniac's release of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, both Peter Parker and Miles will be playable in this new game as shown in the gameplay trailer. Other characters that will appear in the game are Kraven the Hunter, Black Cat, Prowler, Wraith (Yuri Watanabe), Tombstone, the Lizard, Kingpin, Shocker, Taskmaster, and Venom.

With new mechanics and abilities in the game, it is no wonder that Spiderman 2 is believed to be already acclaiming many upcoming awards this year, possibly Game of the Year.

However, after this year's PlayStation Showcase, looking back there were only a few titles that were truly exclusive to PlayStation. Such as Final Fantasy XVI and Spiderman. The point of a console's showcase was to reveal new upcoming updates, exclusive games, and hardware. Of course, we did get all those things, but only a handful of each.

Yes, Sony did present the new earbuds and exclusive handheld console that will be able to play all your favourite games on the go. In comparison to games, PlayStation just gave away a multitude of multiplatform titles as confirmed by Xbox who shared this:

According to Xbox, majority of these titles that were presented in the showcase, are multiplatform meaning they are not exclusive and can be played on other consoles.

We know PlayStation released the new God of War and Horizon games during the first half of 2022, and ending it this year with only Spiderman is quite disappointing. Not saying that Sony will suffer from their profits this year. Just implying that compared to previous years, the 2023 Showcase isn't making PlayStation as desirable anymore.

In the 2020 Showcase, fans got Gran Turismo 7, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon's Souls, and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. In 2021, we were teased with God of War: Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Wolverine in which we still have no updates on.

This year, it appears that PlayStation has only a handful of new exclusives, while others, like Final Fantasy and Spider-Man 2 were teased earlier. Many of the future projects were missing this year, and this has given Microsoft an advantage over Sony. Xbox still has their showcase upcoming on June 11 at 10 am PST.

So as a Xbox user, should you be worried? No. PlayStation has already played their cards at this year's showcase but still have a couple aces up their sleeve. Xbox on the other hand, has been entirely strict on not leaking any of their titles this year and given that most of the games from PlayStation's showcase are shared on Xbox; it's safe to say that players can sigh in relief.
